Piero Mosti was born in 1941 in Massa Carrara, Tuscany. A pupil of Mario Angelotti at the local art school, he learnt fresco technique before entering the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara where he met the Art History Professor as well as Design and Fine Art historian Pier Carlo Santini. The latter said of Mosti:
‘it was natural that the first shift in his style would have happened towards a melancholic realism. The danger was to be rhetoric and predictable. Mosti avoided this risk through replacing the descriptive, illustrative and literal imagery with a figuration which is highly evocative and symbolic’.
With a career spanning over 40 years, he had important exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. In 2011 he was amongst the artists exhibiting in Villa Bardini in Florence, venue that was one of the ‘extensions’ of the Venice Biennale Italian Pavilion.
