A mid 20th century French oil on canvas On the Bank of the Seine by René Levrel (1900-1981), signed 'René Levrel (lower right).
Levrel enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nantes in 1916 and was influenced by Courbet, Bonnard, Laprade and Valloton. In the following year, he studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and held his first exhibition in 1927. Levrel was particulary inspired by the daily life of Paris its busy boulevards, squares and the banks of the Seine.
It is framed in a French style frame.
