A rare and unusual 'faux bois' carved giltwood looking glass, French late 18th Century.  The dividend mirror plate within a frame delicately worked with interlocking vines and branches adorned with vine leaves and bunches of grapes and leaf carved cresting.  The rectangular form of this looking glass or pier mirror with its lavish carving is typical of French taste towards the closing years of the 18th century.  For similar looking glass of similar form see 'World Mirrors 1650-1900' Graham Child.  Page 196 figs 368 and 369.  Please also see more iimages on our website.
