An Early 19th Century Sicilian Decorative Marriage Cart Adornment

From Streett Marburg

Availability: SOLD

This wonderful piece of Italian Folk Art is carved open work polychrome wood and wrought iron.  There is so much to see in this piece, carved heads, metal profiles, birds and the three legs and sun symbol of Sicily with a carved lion on each side. These ornate adornments were created for Sicilian ceremonial processions to be fitted to carts pulled by Oxen, the processions were a riot of colour and beauty.  We believe this particular one was created for a marriage.

We see this as a piece of wall art and have fitted it accordingly so that it appears to float on the wall.
